New podcast episode: longevity in diverse mice
Published:
Can we discover the genetic basis of longevity in a diverse panel of mice? Find out by listening to the newest episode of the GSA’s podcast “Genetics in Your World”: Age Is Just A Number: Mapping Longevity in Diversity Outbred Mice! In this episode, I interview Dr. Gary Churchill (Jackson Laboratory) about the challenges involved in mapping loci responsible for complex traits and how we can translate longevity research in model organisms to humans.

Conference presentation: AGA 2024
Published:
I was an abstract-selected speaker at AGA 2024: Genomic Technologies and the Future of Conservation. I presented “The genetics of inbreeding depression in a pedigreed wild population of Florida Scrub-Jays”. View the highlights from my talk and others here!
New publication: Florida Scrub-Jay genome
Published:
“A new high quality genome assembly for the Federally Threatened Florida Scrub-Jay (Aphelocoma coerulescens)” was just published in G3:Genes|Genomes|Genetics!
New pre-print: Florida Scrub-Jay genome
Published:
Check out our new pre-print for a new Florida Scrub-Jay genome assembly and annotation. Long-read sequencing and a linkage map helped us add ~260 Mbp of sequence and find a few more chromosomes in comparison to previous assemblies.
Filipinas in STEM
Published:
I was interviewed by Science Corps Education & Research Fellow Swastika Issar (in partnership with the Central Visayan Institute Foundation) on my experience as a Filipino-American woman in STEM. There aren’t many Filipinos and Fil-Ams in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and we often go unseen (like so many others) due to being lumped under the monolith of “Asian”. I was honored to share my story and research!
I passed my qualifying exams!
